Wandering dogs
Dog owners are responsible for ensuring their dog is safely contained to their property. A dog not under the effective control of its owner is considered to be ‘wandering at large’ which is an offence under the Dog & Cat Management Act 1995.
A wandering dog may pose a risk to themselves, other animals or people. If a dog is found to be ‘wandering at large’ and the owner can not be identified or located through registration or microchipping details the dog will be kept safe at an impounding facility.
What to do if you've lost your dog
If you've recently lost your dog please call us on 8563 8444. We will also display a notice in our Nuriootpa office and on our lost and found pets page for any dogs that have been found in the hope of reuniting the dog with it's owner.
If a dog is not collected by the owner it will be transferred to Animal Welfare League where it will be assessed for its suitability to be re-homed.
