Creative industries
We support a range of initiatives and services that help creative industries in the Barossa region both directly and through partnerships such as with Art Music Design Barossa.
We recognise the importance of creative industries in fostering community wellbeing through social opportunities, cultural identity, and artist development as well as enhancing regional tourism experiences. Previous creative projects in the Barossa include:
- Barossa Fringe on Tour 2020
- Busk to Dusk - A musically focused event providing young people aged 12-25 an accessible performance opportunity
- A Civic Space - Julian Day
- Restoration of the 1877 Hill and Son Grand Organ
Live music
Driven by the State Government’s Music Development Office, the Regional Accelerator Music Program (RAMP) encompassed a series of activities designed to support regional musicians and live music opportunities.
Through a successful Expression of Interest we were provided $20,000 from the state government to support a dedicated Regional Live Music Coordinator through 2019-20.
As part of this program a Live Music Strategy was completed to help guide Council’s commitment to live music in the region.
Live music action strategy goals
- that live music continues to be recognised and supported as an integral part of the Barossa’s identity: both as a community activator and as a part of the broader regional brand
- there is ongoing funding and investment through a variety of sources to ensure that the Barossa is activated through music in our many varied, unique and world-renowned spaces
- the Barossa is committed to the support of its musicians and music industry, and actively works to nurture local talent, including youth-led initiatives.
- there is an ongoing investment to ensure that the Barossa is a destination for live music audiences seeking a discerning and varied musical offering both from local and touring talent.
Visual arts and culture
Support in the development of both art and culture in the Barossa Valley region is facilitated by the Manager, Community and Culture. The goal is to promote and celebrate the identity of the region, as well as capitalise on the vibrant arts and cultural community that's already established, providing support and advice to grow this vital industry.
