The Barossa Regional Gallery and the Barossa Council are excited to announce the launch of the Vintage Festival Art Prize for 2023 and invite all local, South Australian and beyond artists to apply.
The 2023 Art Prize encourages artists to create new works responding to the theme of VANISHING POINT.
There is a point at which vision becomes useless, where you reach the extent of “as far as the eye can see.” Yet, your eyes seek that point, are drawn toward it, follow it. All things seem to be moving with you, around you, ahead of you, in the direction of this vanishing point.
The concept of the vanishing point in art was first explored in Renaissance Europe. Its use in painting creates depth, inviting the viewer inside the work. It is illusion, of course – at once defined by perspective and creating it.
Between here and there, now and next, today and tomorrow, lies what is known. The vanishing point leads us to explore the unknown, the yet to be discovered. Convergence need not be a quiet fade to grey. There is opportunity and possibility.
The vanishing point links the finite to the infinite; it speaks to both extinction and renewal. "Nobody knows, nobody sees, 'til the light of life stops burning, 'til another soul goes free." (Mike Settle)
The artwork can be in any medium in both 2D and 3D format and there will be a first prize awarded and a People's Choice award. Entries close 27th February, 2023.
Exhibition Dates: 7 April 2023 to 5 June 2023
Exhibition Opening and Prize Awarded: 14 April 2023
