Don’t wait to recognise someone great
21 Sep. 2023The Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards provide a perfect opportunity to celebrate the efforts of those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the community.
Nominations are now open for the categories of Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Award for Active Citizenship, giving people the chance to acknowledge organisations and individuals who contribute to the advancement and well-being of the region.
Angaston’s Keith Jamieson embodies the spirit of the Australia Day Citizen of the Year awards which recognise outstanding community service in the current year or over a number of years.
As recipient of the 2023 Award for Active Citizenship, the Angaston Football Club President not only volunteered many hours in the lead up to his club hosting the 2022 Toyota AFL National Inclusion Carnival, he also helped coordinate operations, volunteers, match logistics, umpires, catering, marketing and promotions.
He even provided commentary during the live stream broadcast.
Humbled and grateful for the recognition Keith is quick to say he’s not the only one that gives of his time, there are “plenty of others doing the same if not more”.
From those who go above and beyond despite being time poor, to those who have many hours to spare, let them know they are noticed and valued.
“They are just as important as each other,” Keith says.
If you know someone doing something good in the community, make sure you nominate them because they won’t nominate themselves.
"They don’t do what they do for awards or recognition, they do it for the community."
Nominations can be made online at citizenoftheyear.com.au/nominate or you can fill in a hard copy nomination form available at Council offices at Nuriootpa, Angaston, Tanunda, Lyndoch and Mount Pleasant.
Awards will be presented during Council’s Australia Day commemorations on 26 January.
