Have your say on the Barossa of the future
28 Apr. 2023The Barossa Council is planning for future growth and preservation of the region’s character, and wants the community’s valued input.
Mayor Bim Lange says it’s the most significant community consultation of its kind since the Barossa Character Preservation District was introduced in 2013.
“With the State Government to undertake a review of The 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, it’s timely for us as a community to consider what characteristics make us unique – things like our landscape, natural and built heritage, and the industries that rely on them – and how they are reflected in the new Regional Plan and planning policy,” Mayor Lange said.
“Equally, we know there are increasing pressures impacting local housing, development and population growth. So it’s important to understand how the community wants us to plan for future growth, what infrastructure is needed, and what are the non-negotiables when considering growth.
Understanding community expectations is key to ensuring we both protect, and progress, our wonderful region.
Community feedback will help inform a draft Growth and Infrastructure Investment Strategy, as well as proposed amendments to the Planning and Design Code.
People can give feedback in a range of ways, including online surveys, in person at pop-ups across the region or by making representation to Elected Members at two community forums.
“We want to hear from all parts of the community, from agriculture, business and industry sectors to the everyday Joe who calls the Barossa home,” Mayor Lange said. “Anyone who loves where they live should participate.”
Consultation will run from 1 May to 30 June. For more information visit yoursay.barossa.sa.gov.au/baro...
