Improvements to The Rex leisure pool21 Jan. 2022
The Barossa Council will undertake renewal of The Rex leisure pool to meet the future aquatics needs of the community.
The $450,000 investment in retiling the leisure pool and spa is expected to extend its useful life for another 20 years.
Council will extend the outdoor pool season until 30 April to expand community access to pool facilities during this time.
Mayor Lange said given the age of the leisure pool and while the pool is already undergoing maintenance, it’s timely to invest in full tile replacement to minimise repair and maintenance in the future.
“This facility has served our community well for around 12 years, and this upgrade will ensure we can continue to meet the high demand for indoor aquatic services well into the future,” he said.
Council and centre managers Belgravia Leisure will seek to minimise disruption to users during the upgrade, with most children’s swimming lessons and aqua aerobics to proceed in the lap pool. Some changes to lap swimming and swimming club lane scheduling are also anticipated.
Mayor Lange urged people to take advantage of the alternative swimming arrangements in place.
“As always, we thank our community for their understanding and patience as we undertake this vital upgrade.”
The works are expected to be complete mid-April. The capital renewal will be funded in the 2021-22 budget and will not impact Council’s operating position.
Aquatics users of The Rex who choose to suspend their membership during construction may be entitled to discounts or re-joining fee relief.
