New sister city for Barossa12 Apr. 2023
The region is set to enjoy a boost to economic, cultural and educational opportunities as The Barossa Council gears up to enter into a sister-city agreement with the City of Grapevine, Texas which is the fifth largest wine producing state in the United States.
Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said as major wine and food destinations, the two regions share many similarities and a global reputation for premium wine, food and events.
As part of 2023 Barossa Vintage Festival celebration, Council is excited to host a delegation from the City of Grapevine, showcasing our community and the rich cultural heritage of our region.
A formal commitment will be signed at a civic reception at Barossa Regional Gallery during the City of Grapevine’s visit to facilitate the next steps in building the relationship between the two local government authorities.
“Grapevine is an extremely well-established destination for cultural, wine and tourism events, with deep ties to heritage and character preservation - things we are equally passionate about in our region.”
The sister-city opportunity builds upon the trade and investment relationships already established between the South Australian Government and the US, and is anticipated to be formally ratified in September 2023 in Grapevine, Texas at their premier event ‘Grapefest’.
