Preserving the natural gems in Tanunda Woodlands
25 Mar. 2022A new conservation project funded by the State Government is a big step towards helping preserve the natural gems in Tanunda Woodlands on Menge Road.
The site is one of six Council reserves managed by the Trees for Life (Bush for Life) program.
Our Senior Environmental Officer Kim Thompson says part of the funding will go towards conducting a flora survey and developing a management plan.
"There's so much diversity in this little pocket, so it's really important for us to understand exactly what's here so we can work out the threats and how to mitigate them," Kim says.
The funding will also help keep weeds in check and support a 'come and try' day involving a bird walk and plant identification.
"This is a great opportunity to build capacity within our community - we've seen how successful that can be in areas like the Altona CSR Landcare Reserve," says Kim.
Helping nature along, especially in your local community, is a fantastic way to connect with the natural beauty of the Barossa.
The initiative is funded through the Revitalising Private Conservation in South Australia pilot project.
