Top tourism award for Barossa Visitor Centre
5 Nov. 2021The Barossa Visitor Centre, operated by The Barossa Council, was last night named Best Visitor Information Services at the 2021 South Australian Tourism Awards.
Hailed as the tourism industry’s ‘night of nights’ the Awards took place at Adelaide Oval, honouring the state’s top tourist attractions, accommodation, events and experiences.
The Barossa Visitor Centre team are certainly no strangers to the accolade, already being multi-award winners of the South Australian Tourism Awards in 2012 – 2015.
It is always such an honour to be recognised and is a true testament to our staff and volunteer team who have such pride in our space, our work and our community
Despite the challenges faced within the tourism industry due to the impacts of COVID-19 the Barossa Visitor Centre saw an increase in visitor enquiries of almost 17% compared to prior to the pandemic in 2018-19.
Through fire danger, pandemics, lockdowns, floods and hail, the Barossa Visitor Centre has flourished in adapting to ever-changing expectations of travellers.
Mayor Bim Lange said the Barossa Visitor’s Centre collaborative approach and agility contribute to their ongoing success.
The team work closely with Tourism Barossa, Barossa Grape and Wine Association as well as local producers, artisans and businesses to create an immersive gateway for visitors to discover the region, as well as continuing to build the regional brand through online initiatives such as Barossa Made.
The Barossa Visitor Centre were in good company, with 12 other deserving Barossa businesses also finalists vying an award last night. A huge congratulations to the following Barossa winners and medallists:
• Seppeltsfield for Best Winery, Brewery, Distillery and inducted into the hall of fame
• Vasse Virgin for Best Tourism Retail and Hire Services
• Barossa Valley Chocolate Company, Bronze for Best Tourist Attraction
• Barossa Vintage Festival , Bronze for Major Festival & Events
• Pindarie, Bronze for Best Winery, Brewery, Distillery
A special mention to Seppeltsfield's own Nicole Hodgson for being awarded Outstanding Contribution by an Individual.
As award winners the Barossa Visitor Centre along with the mentioned award winners will proceed to represent South Australia at the 2021 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards on the Sunshine Coast in March next year.
