Community cars

Our community cars are driven by volunteer drivers who are fully trained, assessed and security cleared.

To use the community car service you must be a resident of The Barossa Council or Light Regional Council and be ‘transport disadvantaged’ (for example, you do not have a licence, access to a car or can’t drive because of age or health reasons).

If you are aged 65 years and over (50 and over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) you must be registered and referred by My Aged Care (1800 200 422) before using the service for the first time.

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We are unable to transport children who require a child restraint or booster seat.

Our fees are subsidised, with the standard fares found in the Fees and Charges Register. As a guide, a return trip to Adelaide costs around $30. Your carer or companion can travel with you at no cost. Hardship allowances may apply.

Ideally, cars should be booked 2-3 weeks in advance. However, we will do our best to accommodate your booking at shorter notice if a car is available. The service is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Health under The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), the State Government’s Department of Human Services, The Barossa Council, Light Regional Council, and community partnerships which include Barossa Area Fundraisers for Cancer and The Great Revival Shop Tanunda.
