Elected Members Meet your Elected Members As an Elected Member you are required to present the views of the residents to your Council and in turn explain Council policy and decisions to them. Become an Elected Member To become a Council Member you must be successfully elected, which involves nominating and running an election campaign. Elected Member behaviour Elected Members are required to comply with rules and standards that are set out in the Behavioural Standards for Council Members. Elected Member registers Council is required to publish certain registers under legislation, such as gifts and benefits received, training attendance and cost and primary and ordinary returns. Role of Elected Members Elected Members are required to represent the views and interests of residents and ratepayers to Council and, in turn, explain Council policy and decisions to residents. Role of the Mayor The Mayor is elected to office and presides over meetings and acts as the spokesperson of Council. Council Elections Local Government General elections are held every four years, concluding in November of each election year. The next general election will take place in 2026.
