The Barossa Bushgardens Community Nursery is a not-for-profit enterprise funded by Council, providing a supply of seedlings of Barossa origin for agricultural, industrial, commercial and domestic use across the Barossa region.
The Wholesale Nursery Drainage Program provided the necessary infrastructure to fulfill capacity for native plant propagation on-site at Barossa Bushgardens.
The completed program works has enabled the nursery to increase production capacity to 15,000 seedlings each year, generating increased revenue that can be reinvested into nursery production to offset production costs.
The project used local contractors, quarry for the road base, and irrigation suppliers to help support the local economy and service industries. It was completed by 30 June 2021 and funding was received through the Federal Government Drought Funding, with Council also contributing $15K.
Key works
The project included the installation of a spoon drain, pump, and sump to recycle water from the nursery back into the nursery, and onto nearby gardens to provide a complete reuse system that prevents water drainage and pooling on the nursery floor.
Cost
$76,000
