The Barossa will soon see a new $4,729,908M ex GST Rugby Development built in Tanunda (next to the Rex), thanks to a $995,000 infrastructure grant from The Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing and a further $3,424,908 from The Barossa Council and the remainder put forward by the Barossa Rams.
The site will see the development of a new purpose-built, rugby facility to meet contemporary standards and provide high quality, inclusive, gender neutral and accessible infrastructure that will grow participation in rugby and encourage broad community use of multi-use facilities for associated activities such as Touch Football, extended primary school sporting activities. See architectural and Civil plans attached in the timeline below.
The Barossa Rams Rugby team will be relocated from Lyndoch Oval to the new purpose-built facility at Tanunda with, gender neutral, multi-use changerooms, clubroom, 1 x rugby pitch, 4 x LED lights providing 100 lux, carparking and internal roads.
The relocation of rugby is in response to pressure on infrastructure and scheduling at Lyndoch Oval, resulting from population growth in Southern Barossa and unprecedented growth and demand across all codes (rugby, football, netball, cricket, athletics). The new development will be fit-for-purpose infrastructure that meets the Australian standard for amateur rugby and associated touch football. This will contribute to player safety and improve player ability. The installation of lighting for night competition will allow participation growth in the sport, increase scheduling opportunities and broader the use of the site. The development will have inclusive infrastructure that is gender neutral, multi-use and at a standard that can host code finals.
