New food business notification form
Before commencing operation, new food businesses are required to notify us and complete a New Food Business Notification Form.
Food health and safety complaints
Complaints regarding food premises, food handling, and food poisoning are investigated by the Health Services team. An Environmental Health Officer can be contacted if you have any concerns about the following issues:
- Poor handling of food in a food business
- The cleanliness of a food business
- Pests found within a food premises
- Unsatisfactory food storage
- The sale of unsafe or unsuitable food (including contamination with foreign matter and food poisoning)

Routine inspections and investigations
Council’s Environmental Health Officers also routinely inspect all food premises to ensure compliance with the Food Act 2001 and Food Regulations 2017. Tasks undertaken by Council’s Environmental Health Officers include:
- Routine inspection of food premises
- Food complaint investigations
- Investigation of food poisoning cases
- Food premises auditing
