Road verges
The road verge is the area of land between the back of the kerb or road edge and the front property boundary. Maintaining road verges is a shared responsibility between Council and property owners.
Residents have certain responsibilities around road verge maintenance and landscaping for the safety of pedestrians and motorists. This includes ensuring landscaping does not create sight distance issues, obstruct lighting or street signs or affect underground services.
Council’s responsibility is to ensure pedestrian access is available and there is sight distance available to and from vehicles and pedestrians. Where a formal path has not been provided, Council may control weeds and vegetation to achieve pedestrian access and sight distance.
Before undertaking any alterations to a road verge residents need to apply for construction or modification to council property.
