Your bushfire survival plan
Living, working, or travelling through a high-risk area mandates the need for a comprehensive bushfire survival plan. It's essential to have a well-thought-out strategy in place that clearly outlines the actions each family member will take if a bushfire threatens the area.
The Country Fire Service (CFS) offers a user-friendly tool designed to assist you and your family in creating a 5-minute bushfire plan. We strongly encourage you to leverage this tool to equip yourself with the latest information for a personalised plan. Complete your own bushfire plan in 3 easy steps.
As part of your preparation, the CFS has categorised two types of shelters for bushfires: Bushfire Safer Places, providing higher protection, and Bushfire Last Resort Refuges, offering minimal protection but serving as a final gathering point when other options are unavailable. Familiarise yourself with these locations and refuges nearby to incorporate them into your plan.
For around-the-clock fire restriction and fire ban advice, reach out to the CFS Bushfire Information Hotline 24-hours a day at 1800 362 361 or visit the CFS website for additional information. Your safety is important, and having a well-informed and practised bushfire survival plan is a critical step in ensuring the well-being of you and your loved ones.
