Community Car Service

What is the Community Car Service?

Community Transport was set up in 1992 to enable the transport disadvantaged to access services and activities. We currently have a fleet of ten vehicles.

Am I eligible for transport?

The scheme is available for anyone who resides in the Barossa or Light Regional Council areas and is transport disadvantaged or temporarily transport disadvantaged.

What areas do you pick up from?

Our service covers the Barossa Council and the Light Regional Council areas.

What kind of appointments can I attend?

Most often the cars are used for attending medical appointments however we are able to help out with other types of appointment and activities.

How much will it cost?

We ask for a fee towards the running costs of our service.

Local trips are between $10 and $15 return. Trips to Adelaide are between $25 to $35 return.

Will the hospital reimburse me?

Some public hospitals reimburse transport costs, contact your hospital’s transport office for information.

What if I have a Veterans Affairs card?

You may be eligible for DVA transport or reimbursement for your Community Transport donation from the DVA.

How much notice do I need to give to book?

In order for us to plan ahead please give as much notice as possible, at a week is preferable but we will always do our best to accommodate your request.

Is it a door to door service?

Our drivers will pick you up from your home, take you to your appointment and return you home.

Can my carer come too?

Yes - please let us know when booking that your carer will be travelling too. There is no charge for carers.

Who will my driver be?

One of our volunteer team will drive you. All our volunteer drivers are fully trained, assessed and security cleared.

Will I have the car to myself?

We always aim to make the minimum number of journeys in order to reduce costs, driving time and environmental impact. Because of this you may have to share the car with another passenger or passengers.

Can I book a regular / repeat trip?

We are not able to provide regular or on-going transport services. Please give us a call to discuss your needs and we will do our best to help or refer you to someone who can.

Is there wheelchair access?

We have two wheelchair accessible vehicles that can be hired. You will need to provide your own driver who will require a short induction prior to use.

Who runs the scheme?

Barossa Regional Community Transport is auspiced by The Barossa Council.

Who funds the scheme?

The scheme is funded by state and Commonwealth government, The Barossa Council, Light Regional Council and community partnerships and donations.
