In a coup for the Southern Barossa, the Hostworks Stage 1 finish of the Santos Tour Down Under will return to Lyndoch in 2017.
Hostworks Stage 1 will begin in Unley on Tuesday, 17 January and enter the southern Barossa via Williamstown.
Race Director Mike Turtur said the stage promised to deliver another spectacular day of racing.
“The race will return to Lyndoch in the Barossa in January after a successful stage finish this year and will take in Sandy Creek for the first time,” he said.
“Fans will have the opportunity to cheer on the peloton with three laps passing through Barossa Valley Way.
“As Australia’s premier cycling race, our focus continues to grow and deliver a world class cycling event.”
Deputy Mayor Margaret Harris said she was thrilled Lyndoch would have the opportunity to defend the mantle of “Santos Best Dressed Town”.
“Our passionate contingent of local volunteers and the wider community showed they truly know how to roll out the welcome mat, and their enthusiasm made the 2016 event a memorable one,” she said.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the Barossa once again to a worldwide audience, cementing the Barossa’s reputation for food, wine and world-class cycling.”
The 2017 Santos Tour Down Under will be held from Saturday 14 January until Sunday 22 January. Visit www.tourdownunder.com.au for all the details.
