Governor to present Australia Day Awards

The Governor of South Australia will present The Barossa Council’s Australia Day awards on Thursday.

His Excellency The Honourable Hieu Van Le AC and his wife Mrs Le will be special guests at the Australia Day Breakfast and Citizen of the Year Awards at Tanunda Show Hall.

Tanunda Town Band will perform a vice regal Salute on their arrival and His Excellency and Mrs Le will remain after formalities to mingle with guests.

Mayor Bob Sloane said the Vice-Regal visit was a privilege for the Barossa.

“The fact that His Excellency has chosen to attend our Barossa civic ceremony is a coup for our community and will add another dimension to what promises to be a fantastic Australia Day event,” said Mr Sloane.

Community healthcare researcher Dr Victoria Cox will be Ambassador at the annual event, which includes awards for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Community Project of the Year.

Nineteen people will also become Australian citizens in a Citizenship Ceremony.

The celebration begins at 8.30am and features a community breakfast and entertainment including music, face painters and glitter tattooist.
