A Barossa Christmas parade at Nuriootpa will be one of the region’s headline events in the lead-up to Christmas.
The format will include a street parade followed by a food fair in the same tradition as the Tanunda Christmas parade, and will be held on Friday, December 4.
Activities will be centralised adjacent Nuriootpa High School and the grassed area in front of Coulthard House.
Co-convenor Chris Harms, who is a resident of Tanunda, said it would be a community event in every sense of the word.
He said businesses from his hometown would be asked to help cater for the event with “pop-up” street food and drink stalls to add to the atmosphere.
“All stakeholders have shown maturity to arrive at this decision, and we think it will provide the opportunity to refresh the event under the banner of ‘Barossa’ rather than any individual township,” he said.
Barossa Mayor Bob Sloane said Council was pleased to play a role in facilitating discussions.
“In keeping with previous years Council will continue to provide logistical support such as road closures, rubbish removal and staffing resources,” he said.
