2019 Santos Tour Down Under

New Barossa race route for Santos Tour Down Under

A new race route with an Angaston finish is set to reinvigorate the Barossa leg of the 2019 Santos Tour Down Under.

The race returns to Angaston for Stage 2 on 16 January 2019 after a start in Norwood.

Barossa Mayor Bob Sloane welcomed the announcement, saying the Tour would cover plenty of ground, from Williamstown in the southern Barossa across to Eden Valley, Tanunda and Nuriootpa.

“It’s great that the 2019 route takes in multiple Barossa communities, giving residents and visitors a chance to experience the action of the Tour from a new perspective,” he said.

“We are thrilled to continue this 20-year association with the Tour and showcase the Barossa once again to a worldwide audience.

“It’s another reason we can add world-class events to our food and wine repertoire.”

Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Mike Turtur said the 2019 course would test the riders and create a spectacle for the fans.

“We have not seen a race finish in Angaston since 2014 so are expecting a welcome return for the finish on Stage 2,” said Mr Turtur.

“The finish will be fast, and Angaston seems to provide winning form for our Aussie riders with TDU four-time race winner, Simon Gerrans, winning the stage into Angaston twice, once in 2006 and then again in 2014, as well as Mark Renshaw, Allan Davis and Matt Goss all winning a stage into Angaston too.”

The Santos Tour Down Under will be staged 10 – 20 January 2019. For more information visit www.tourdownunder.com.au #TDU
